Otto Hutzinger Student Award

Otto Hutzinger was a scientific pioneer in the field of environmental chemistry. The award honors Professor Otto Hutzinger as the founder of the Dioxin Symposia and his continuing interest as a teacher and researcher committed to moving science forward and to stimulating young students and the next generation of researchers. Awards will be granted to eligible students who presented their research during the Dioxin/BFR symposium.

GRANT & AWARD CEREMONY

The award recipients will be selected by a jury made of members of the organizing committees during the week of the symposium. The successful applicants will be awarded during the closing ceremony and receive a plaque. We encourage the applying students to be present at the closing ceremony.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

To be eligible for the Otto Hutzinger Student Award, the applicant must be either a current or recently graduated (in the last 6 months) student (undergraduate or graduate). Documentation of student status (i.e. scan of student ID or letter from supervising professor or proof of status from university administration) must be provided when submitting abstract through the conference website. The student must have submitted an abstract according to the submission guidelines as described on the meeting website. Students whose paper does not meet these guidelines will not be considered. The student must be the main contributor of the research paper and must be the presenter of the work at the symposium, no matter if oral or poster presentation. Upon submission, application for the student award must be confirmed by checking the respective box.

Evaluation Criteria

Criteria for evaluation of the student oral or poster presentations will include originality and completeness of the work presented as well as the scientific quality of the abstract submitted. The judges will attend the student’s presentation and are also encouraged to interview the students to evaluate the student’s ability to communicate the objectives, methods, results and impact of their research as well as their ability to interact with the scientific audience. Based on the above, the judges will nominate students to receive the Otto Hutzinger Student Award.
